How has Symplast impacted your ability to provide clinical care?
It’s been great. I’m a new practice. I just started up. You know, I’m running with a pretty small staff, just myself and one staff member. So it’s nice that it’s just really simple to use, really straightforward. It’s easy for my staff to update things in the schedule, and then I can see it instantaneously when a patient gets here. They can do a check in process. They can fortunately do a lot of the intake remotely so when they come in a lot of this stuff has already been done. So that just cuts down on having more forms to sign, more stuff for them and for my staff member to do in clinic when they get here. Yeah, it’s been good.
How has Symplast helped with your day-to-day workflows?
Quite honestly, I’m not so busy clinically yet as to the point where I just open up and look at my Symplast app because I have few enough patients on my schedule that I know when they are and everything. But it’s been nice for work life reasons. If people call or contact me directly, if I get a direct referral from another plastic surgeon, someone gives a patient my cell phone number and says, hey, text this guy, make an appointment or call this this person. It does make it easy for me that I can just hop on Symplast, look at my schedule, create an appointment myself enter their basic info myself, send them the intake stuff, invite them to the app. It’s all really easy to do and I’ve done that from just my cell phone while I’m sitting on the couch at home or, you know, out wherever. So that that doesn’t make things very, very simple, that I can also schedule appointments myself and invite people to join the app, do the intake paperwork. That is really easy to do from my end. And then it takes work off of the hands of my staff also, which is great.
Is Symplast a true mobile platform?
Yeah, it’s really really nice. You know, I’m in the office, I’ve got the office iPad and I’m using that or I’m just literally walking around the city and I’ve got my phone in my pocket and I can open up my phone and do that. And both apps are great.
Before Symplast, what system were you using to chart and run your practice?
This is a brand new practice so we did our research, found the EMR that we liked to start with, and that was Symplast and that was through recommendations from other people. In my fellowship, I work with a bunch of other doctors and some of them use Symplast so I got to see as they were using it and liked it and thought that was really nice to have, all the cloud storage of photos right there so you could, you know, if you knew you were doing a case on a patient, you could just hop on Symplast and scroll back and see their pre-op photos, any simulations that you made, if you did any sort of computer morphs and then see the patient in front of you so that that was that was kind of nice. But no, I haven’t used anything, anything else in this practice.
What was the deciding factor for why you chose Symplast?
So it was mostly referrals from other surgeons. When I was in my fellowship, I worked with a bunch of different doctors who used a bunch of different EMR systems and just getting to see the ones and for the doctors that used Symplast, being able to just pull up their EMR to look at a patient quickly, look at the cloud storage photos and see everything that’s happened to that patient before, just very, very simply. And then also just seeing them, you know, take a quick photo on the table at the end of surgery and just put that right in the EMR. That all just seemed very streamlined and straightforward and so I like that. And then just the fact that everything is really nicely integrated and very, very simple to use. And I like that there was a lot of functionality incorporated into it, the messaging, the cloud storage of photos that I can just take pre and post op photos in clinic very quickly put it up in the cloud and know that it’s there in the EMR forever. It is really nice and eliminates extra work especially with a new practice and a small staff. Also it’s really reasonably priced honestly, you know, from, from a price compared to features perspective it seemed like the best option that I saw.
What would you tell other practices thinking about making the change to Symplast?
I would say just look at look at everything that you have set up. Look at your EMR, look at how much you’re paying for it. Ask your staff how they feel about it. If they feel like their workday could be streamlined, if things could be handled more efficiently in your office, and then take a look and see if you think the features in Symplast, the price, all that stuff, you know, would it be an improvement?
